Book Review - Swaraj by Arvind Kejriwal

The book "Swaraj" written by Arvind kejriwal is his personal take on the social and political culture of modern day India. The current Indian political scenario has deteriorated so much that people have stopped believing on the system. The corruption has become rampant and has become a part of people's life.

Swaraj means rule of the people. Swaraj literally means self-governance where people govern themselves. The swaraj system refers to a system where people play a pivotal role in governance and voice their opinions in policy decisions. Indian system always used to give importance to local bodies. Even is present day we have bodies like panchayats that govern people at the root levels but are not very successful.

The book is a realistic take on the current Indian system. The book points out many loop holes in the current Indian political and social structure. People's participation is missing and political class is not following democratic processes. The book brings into focus many points which will make you question the social structure and the political class. Points are also raised about how honest the politicians are? and is there a possibility that all these politicians have become corrupt and puppets of people who have money?

The book stands out because it not just gives personal point of view but also a insider's point of view. It tells you to think rational and emphasizes on people's participation. To sum it up it gives the reader a comparison between what India is to what India should be or in words a comparison between the current political system to a socio-political system which will have tools like swaraj, lokpal and RTI in its disposal.
