Indian football team wins the Nehru cup tournament for the third time in succession. India defeated Cameroon in the finals of the tournament by a margin of 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
The match was played with great spirit as both team tried to play possession football. The match was well poised till the full time at 2-2 after which extra time was taken. As no goals were scored during the 30 minutes of the extra time, the match went to penalty shoot-outs.
India and Indian goalkeeper, Subroto Pal are extremely lucky to be the winner of this showdown. Though Subroto pal with his charismatic skills have made India the winners during the last edition (2009) but this time it was the heroics of the shooters that made India look a better side. India scored all the 5 shots while the Cameroon missed their last one and gave India a historic victory.
Cameroon who is ranked far above India will be definitely disappointed with this performance but for India it marks a new beginning as Indian youngsters performed wonderfully.
Sunil Chetri and Robin singh looked formidable in the front and mid field was highly organized, Sunil Chetri was also awarded with the Man of the tournament award. Cheers to Indian Football.
